PL70.net | Highlighter. The first 24-bit HD-AAC album release. Ever.

Heads up audiophile’s … this sounds incredible. I’m stunned by how good this album sounds on little ear buds playing through itunes. I’m looking forward to a plugin that can actually play the mp3 at it’s full 24-bit.

We are extremely excited to announce that Highlighter is very likely the first fully HD-AAC commercial release in the history of music.

Brenden clarifies what’s happening with the file down in the comments:

To clarify, HD-AAC is a lossless codec, but the AAC that you’re used to seeing online and via the iTunes store is a lossy codec. HD-AAC works by creating a lossy core that’s around 192kbps, and then wrapping a lossless 24-bit around it — the end result is that when played on a compatible device (iTunes, post-2009 iPods and iPhones, etc.) the lossless 24-bit file is played, but on other devices that are only AAC compatible, the lossy version plays. Here’s a link to the Sonnox plugin that he demonstrates in the video. I’ll have to give this a try in Logic: http://www.sonnoxplugins.com/pub/plugins/products/pro-codec.htm
